Cyberia Announces 56k & ISDN Upgrade

York, PA -- March 20, 1997 -- Cyberia Communications, Inc. announced plans today to upgrade their system to support both 56k and ISDN technology. Both of these new technologies have been "around the corner" and will now be readily available in York.

56k
56k technology is still very new. In fact, U.S. Robotics has just begun shipping modems which support these speeds, called their X2 technology. Other modem manufactures will soon follow with their own versions of 56k modems. With no available standard, Cyberia has chosen to support U.S. Robotics X2 technology, meaning customers will only be able to use U.S. Robotics modems to obtain these speeds until a standard is released.

"We are very comfortable with U.S. Robotics." said Tony Pantano, vice-president of Cyberia Communications, Inc. "USR has had a long history of being first to market new technologies and quickly adopting the standards when they are released. Their focus on software upgradable modems makes it easy for us to quickly support future standards."

ISDN
Integrated Services Digital Network(ISDN) lines have been available in York for some time. GTE's new tariffs are making them more affordable. A residential customer can purchase an ISDN line for approximately $30 per month plus usage. Usage rate plans are available for $17.00 for 25 hours, $30 for 50 hours, or $35 unlimited. Business customers will pay slightly more for the line and do not have the $35 unlimited option. (Overtime is .02/Min).

ISDN lines allow customers to connect the Internet at speeds up to 128k (344% faster than today's 28.8 modems). ISDN's dual digital channels allow customers to talk on the phone or receive faxes while using the Internet. 128k access can be achieved when both channels are utilized for Internet access. Today's quality ISDN modems will dynamically drop your Internet connection to 64k to receive an incoming call or fax and then immediately bring that line back into full Internet use when the call is finished.

"We are excited about offering both of these new technologies." said Adam J. Viener, President of Cyberia Communications, Inc. "One of the best features of ISDN is that there are products available today which will allow you to connect a local area network to the Internet using an ISDN line and provide access to the Internet to several of the computers connected to that network."
