How Does the Web Look to You?
from: Winter '97 Issue 6
Today's computer systems come with all sorts of different graphics
capabilities. The settings for your video driver and monitor can make a
big difference on how you are seeing the Internet. Take a look at these
two screen shots of our new YorkMovies Web Site. If your screen looks like
the one on the right, then you may not have your system setup properly or
you may need a new video driver, card, and/or monitor. If your screen looks like the screen shot on the left, then you are in good shape. If not, here are some tips that you might want to try to see if your current setup can support the higher resolutions.

The first step is to check your systems video settings. In Windows 95, go
to the control panel and double click on the "display" icon. Click on the
settings tab, slide the bar labeled desktop area towards the side labeled
"more" until it reads 800 by 600 pixels, and select apply. At that point
the system should attempt to switch your settings. If you can see the
information on the screen select ok, otherwise the system should revert
back to it's previous display settings after about 15 seconds.
If your video card or monitor cannot support 800x600 you probably have an
old VGA card. SVGA cards are fairly inexpensive and may be a purchase
worth considering. Surfing the web at 800x600 is much more enjoyable.
