What is ISDN and what are it's benefits?
ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network), simply put, is a better telephone line connection. It has the advantage of being completely digital, which allows for much faster, more dependable connections for voice and computer data.
New ISDN modems can take advantage of this technology, providing a tremendous reduction in download time and no line noise whatsoever, making the connection much more reliable than with standard analog modems. And another great benefit is that you can use your Internet connection without interrupting your telephone service.
Technical details
Single-line ISDN comprises two 64Kbps (64,000 bits-per-second) channels, which can be combined for a total of 128Kbps (and up to 512Kbps with data compression). Single line ISDN uses the existing copper phone line in your home.
